IPSC SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Where Science Meets The Shot
For the first time in the history of IPSC, a dedicated scientific research program is exploring the physiology, psychology, and performance science behind competitive practical shooting.
Practical shooting has long relied on the instincts and accumulated experience of elite competitors to define what good performance looks like — but instinct alone can only take a sport so far. Scientific research offers what anecdotal knowledge cannot: objective, measurable, and reproducible data that reveals the true physiological, psychological, and biomechanical demands placed on athletes during competition.
What We’re Studying
The program addresses fundamental questions about the human performance demands of IPSC competition — questions that have never been studied scientifically.
Understanding how energy systems are activated across different course lengths, how motor patterns are trained and retained, how mental preparation affects accuracy under pressure, and how nutrition shapes endurance and recovery gives coaches and athletes a precise, evidence-based foundation to build on.

Why We’re Developing Scientific Research
For a sport as technically demanding and physically complex as IPSC, this kind of rigorous study is not a luxury — it is a necessity. It elevates practical shooting from a discipline shaped by tradition and trial-and-error into a fully recognized athletic pursuit with the same scientific infrastructure that supports Olympic and professional sports.
Beyond individual performance, a robust body of research legitimizes IPSC on the international sporting stage, attracts new talent, informs the development of training curricula, and ensures the sport continues to evolve with the same seriousness and credibility it demands of its competitors.
